The Eventful Afternoon

Parce que j'aime voir mon petit Anou avec un visage comme celui ci !


C'était par un bel après midi ensoleillé. Il faisait très chaud et Anou eu envie de se
baigner. Enki l'accompagna, ainsi que deux gardes qui vinrent avec eux. Ils marchèrent
donc sur environ deux kilomètres le long du Nil, comme à leur habitude, pour trouver le meilleur
endroit possible pour la baignade.

Une fois le coin choisi, Anou se déshabilla et sauta dans l'eau claire et pure du fleuve.
Enki le regarda faire pendant quelques minutes jusqu'à ce que le plus jeune s'immobilise
au beau milieu du Nil en appelant son grand frère d'une voix inquiète. Les deux
sentinelles, entendant Anou, se retournèrent pour voir si tout allait bien. Enki aperçu, de
la rive, l'énorme poisson qui rodait par ici, et apparemment ce n'était pas un poisson des
plus inoffensifs. Il pris une pique en main, enleva vite sa jupe de lin et se précipita dans
l'eau pour effrayer le poisson et le faire se sauver. Au même moment, les gardes
impériaux sortirent leur lance, mais n'intervinrent pas tout de suite. L'animal n'avait pas
l'air de vouloir partir et commençait à devenir agressif. Enki donna de grands coups de
pique dans l'eau pour protéger son frère cadet et blessa la créature marine qui tenta de
morde sa proie sans succès. Enki piaula et fixa le poisson, s'assurant qu'il parte bien et
ne revienne pas. Le grand frère se retourna vers son petit protégé et le serra dans ses
bras. Les deux soldats accoururent aussitôt.

- Tu n'as rien ? s'empressa-t-il de demander.
Anou secoua la tête de gauche à droite pour faire comprendre que tout allait bien et qu'il
y avait juste eu plus de peur que de mal.
Sur les bons conseils des gardes, les deux frères regagnèrent la berge et Enki donna
une serviette de lin verte à Anou qui tremblotait.
- Je suis désolé, je pensais que ce coin là était tranquille. D'habitude les carnassiers
ne viennent pas jusque la. L'eau n'est pas assez profonde pour eux.
- Ce n'est rien Enki. Tu ne pouvais pas savoir, et moi non plus d'ailleurs. C'est sans
doute le bruit qui a fait venir ce poisson. J'ai juste eu peur, c'est tout. Mais c'est bon
maintenant. N'en parle pas à père d'accord ?
- Ne t'en fait pas, je ne lui dirai rien. Et vous non plus ! ordonna Enki aux soldats qui
les accompagnaient.
- Désirez-vous encore vous baigner un peu ou préférez vous rentrer ? demanda l'un
des gardes.
- Le poisson est partit et je ne pense pas qu'il revienne de sitôt. Nous allons rester
encore un peu. Je n'ai pas eu le temps de me baigner et Anou n'a pas pu profiter non
plus. Vous pouvez vous retirer.

Les deux frères restèrent donc encore un peu pour se baigner sans trop s'éloigner de la
rive.
Au bout d'une vingtaine de minute, Anou sortit de l'eau pour aller s'asseoir sur la berge
la ou l'herbe était bien verte et douce. Une légère bise soufflait sur le Nil et Anou
frissonna.

- Tu as froid ? demanda Enki qui sortait lui aussi de l'eau.
- Oui...
- Il fait chaud aujourd'hui pourtant.
- Mais il y a un peu de vent et vu que je suis tout mouillé...
Enki vint s'asseoir à côté de son frère, posa les mains au sol un peu derrière lui, bascula
sa tête vers l'arrière et ferma les yeux. Il aimait écouter le bruissement du vent dans les
buissons et les fougères. Il trouvait cela apaisant.
- Dis, Enki ?
- Hum ?
- Je... Ben voilà, en fait ça fait un moment que je pense à un truc mais je sais pas trop
comment le dire sans avoir trop honte...
Enki ouvrit les yeux et regarda son frère du coin de l'oeil.
- Tu ne rigoleras pas ni ne te moqueras de moi hein ? dit Anou l'air embarrassé.
- Mais bien sûr que non voyons.
- En fait... ça fait un moment que j'aime quelqu'un mais je ne sais pas trop comment lui
en parler...
- Ah ? Comment ça ? Tu aimerais lui dire mais tu n'y arrives pas ? Qui est cette
personne ? demanda Enki curieux et un peu jaloux à la fois.
- Hé bien, justement... c'est un homme... que j'aime...
Les joues d'Anou rougissaient et il n'osait regarder son frère dans les yeux. Enki se
redressa pour se mettre en tailleur et se tourna vers son frère.
- Je le connais ?
- Heu... je ne sais pas...
- Il est du palais ?
- Oui...
- C'est un des gardes ?
- Bien sûr que non !
- Un des enfants des prêtres alors ?
- Non plus.
- Qui est ce dans ce cas ? Je ne vois pas trop qui cela peut être...
Anou releva légèrement la tête sur le côté et grelotta.
- Ce... c'est pas grave. Peut être qu'un jour j'arriverai à le dire.

Enki fut très surpris de voir une pareil expression se dessiner sur le visage de son frère.
Il ne put d'ailleurs résister à pareil regard et le pris dans ses bras, le serrant contre lui.
Leur coeurs battaient fort et aucun des deux n'arrivaient à dire ce qu'il ressentait pour
l'autre. Ils restèrent comme cela un moment avant de se rhabiller et de repartir en
direction du palais.

Ce fut un après midi quelque peu mouvementé et Enki pu découvrir une toute nouvelle
facette de son cher petit frère. Et il espérait bien en apprendre un peu plus au sujet de
cette mystérieuse personne qui intéressait tant son adorable cadet et le mettait dans un
tel état.

It was a beautiful sunny afternoon. It was very hot and Anou wanted to bathe. Enki
accompanied him, and two guards came with them. So they walked about two
kilometers along the Nile, as usual, to find the best possible place for swimming.

Once they found the right place, Anou undressed and jumped into the clear and pure
water of the river. Enki watched him for a few minutes until the youngest suddenly stops
in the middle of the Nile, calling his older brother in a worried voice. The two sentries,
hearing Anou, turned round to see if all was well. Enki perceived from the rive, the huge
fish that roamed here, and apparently it was not one of the most harmless fish. He took
a spear in hand, quickly took off his linen skirt and rushed into the water to scare the fish
and make it leave. At the same time, the imperial guards took their spears, but did not
intervene immediately. The animal did not seem to want to leave and began to become
aggressive. Enki gave great blows of pike into the water to protect his younger brother
and managed to wound the sea creature who tried to bite its prey without success. Enki
squeaked and stared at the fish, making sure it leaves and won't come back. The big
brother turned to his protege and hugged him. The two soldiers once ran.

- Are you okay ? Enki hastened to ask.
Anou shook his head from left to right to make understand that everything was fine and
that there was just more frightened than hurt.
On the good advice of the guards, the two brothers came out of the water on the rive
and Enki gave a green linen napkin to Anou who quivered.
- I'm sorry, I thought it was quiet here. Usually predators do not come so far. The
water is not deep enough for them.
- It's nothing Enki. You could not know, neither do I. This is probably the sound that
brought this fish. It just scared me, that's all. But that's all right now. Do not tell dad
okay ?
- Do not worry, I will not tell him. And neither should you ! Enki ordered to the soldiers
who accompanied them.
- Would you still swim a little or would you prefer to go? asked one of the guards.
- The fish is gone now and I do not think he comes back soon. We will stay a little
longer. I have not had time to bathe and Anou could not enjoy either. You can withdraw.

The two brothers remained so for a little swim without straying too far from the shore.
After about twenty minutes, Anou came out of the water to sit on the rive where the
grass was very green and fresh. A slight breeze blew across the Nile and Anou
shuddered.

- Are you cold ? Enki asked coming out of the water.
- Yes ...
- It's hot today though.
- But there is little wind and since I'm all wet ...
Enki came and sat next to his brother, put his hands on the ground just behind him,
swung his head back and closed his eyes. He loved listening to the wind rustling in the
bushes and ferns. He found it soothing.
- Say, Enki?
- Huh ?
- I ... Well, in fact it's been a while I'm thinking of something but I do not know how to
say it without being ashamed ...
Enki opened his eyes and looked at his brother from the corner of the eye.
- You won't laugh or mock of me eh ? Anou said embarrassed.
- Of course not !
- In fact ... it's been a while since I love someone but I do not know how to talk to him
about that...
- Oh ? How so ? You want to say but you can not do it ? Who is this person ? Enki
asked curious and a little bit jealous at the same time.
- Well, just ... the person I love is... a man ...
Anou's cheeks blushed and he dared not to look at his brother in the eye. Enki sat cross-
legged and turned to face his brother.
- I know him ?
- Uh ... I do not know ...
- Is he from the palace ?
- Yes ...
- This is one of the guards ?
- Of course not !
- One of the children of the priests then ?
- Not.
- Who is it then ? I don't really see who can it be ...
Anou lifted his head slightly to the side and shivered.
- This ... it does not matter. Maybe one day I will manage to say it.

Enki was very surprised to see such an expression drawn on the face of his brother. He
could not resist to such gaze and hugged him, pressing him against his chest. Their
hearts were beating hard and none of them were able to say what he felt for the other.
They stayed like that for a moment before they get dressed and come back to the
palace.

It was a somewhat hectic afternoon and Enki discovered a whole new facet of his
beloved little brother. And he hoped to learn a little more about this mysterious person
who put his adorable brother in such a state.
